We are taking a 10 day trip up through Idaho and I want to get some fishing in. The path goes from Boise, to Lewiston, to Coeur d'Alene, to Salmon before returning home. I have no knowledge of the area and wanted to see if anyone has been through these areas and might have some suggestions on successful lakes, rivers, etc. I am open to any species of fishing and will have my kayak. A PM works great. Thanks in advance.

Only places I have fished that way is up by Kamiah in the Clearwater national forest. Cutthroat trout in the north fork of the Clearwater and rainbow in the smaller feeder streams.

It depends on when your going if it is soon you are between the spring salmon run and the fall Steelhead run on the Snake and Clearwater river, but if it is later the Clearwater which starts in Lewiston is a great Stealhead fishery from Sept-March.
When you get up around Coeur D' Alene and would like to catch some Dandy Large Mouth and Northern Pike take your kayak to the Benewah portion of Lake
Coeur D' Alene. There are lots of other options up that way I lived 30 miles north of Lewiston for years and have fished most bodies of water with in 100 mile radius of there, so if you see something on the map that your interested in I could probably give you some tips on it. Feel free to PM with any question you might have.

Just a thought, but have you tried the Idaho state section of the forum?

You will be traveling the Montana part of your trip during the low water time of year when a fly rods rule - the Clark Fork & Bitterroot Rivers are both trout produces.
The Salmon river will be summer steelhead & trout but hard to do good in a day or two unless you get some local help & pointers.
Lots of public access in most places in Idaho & Montana but please read the Regs - mostly artificial lures and size & limit restrictions.
Not far out of your way (20 miles) is the Blackfoot river just east of Missoula - this is the river that the movie a "River Runs thru it" was filmed - great river to check out. Lots of places to fish in the lower 10 miles. If you go up to McNamara Bridge there is a great access point there to kayak - I went to college in Missoula and fished the heck out of the Blackfoot and Clark fork.
Have fun and watch for wildlife crossing the roads in the evening and early A.M.
