Took two 10 year old kids and there dads that live by me.
one had never fished before the other has fished in the ponds by our house
put the boat in the water the the fish finder said the temp was 47 deg I was thinking that is right where I want, but when we moved to where we started fishing in meadows at 7:30 Am the temp was 53 deg. I did not check the bottom temp so don't think the water has turned over yet.
I told them if we got over 25 fish we will do OK anything less will be bad.
We did OK
started out trolling with 5 lines out then after they learned what was going on we put out another line out, so was using six fishing poles
One time we had 5 fish on at the same time and the two kids reeled all 5 in.
the fish were out in the deep water
was using 4 downriggers 15' to 20' down was best. on lead line pole out 3 colors.

The kids will remember that one. Good to hear they are biting. Planning to hit Soldier Creek either tomorrow or Wed, in the kayaks. Gonna pound the shoreline with white streamers but have a sweetened white jig at the ready.
What did you have going on the business end for the trolling, if you don't mind saying.

I hit Strawberry Saturday too. I launched at the main marina at 7:30 am and headed to the Bryant's Fork area to through some jerk baits. After about 45 minutes with no love from the local residents I started trolling dodgers on my spinning gear. I went east toward Haw's Point and on the way I encountered massive clumps of green algae. Some of it was solid on top of the water. Once I got through that I caught one nice 18" Cutt and another one that was about 14'".
When I neared Haw's Point I started catching nice fish. I trolled east and west past the point and got lots of love from some BIG Cutts. The wind came up as usual around 11am and when it did the fishing got better. I left about 2:30pm and I had landed 19 total fish. All Cutts. I missed probably half a dozen strikes. I was amazed at how big the fish were. Over half of them were in the 19" to 22" range and really fat. I haven't landed that many big fish in quite a while.
It was a great day. Good weather. Water temp at 53 degrees.

we caught a 22" rainbow on a Jointed Rapala the bad thing about the rapala
was it would also catch a lot of moss
I was using dodgers on the rest of my setups that seemed to help keep the algae
off
I use a 18" leader between the dodger and lure I like 4" and 5.5" dodgers
you may have seen us I moved over there. I had one planer board out.
I don't like fishing on Sat. but it was not to bad.
I stayed away from the boats

Thanks for the report. I think it is great that you share what you have with so many kids. They will remember those outings for the rest of their lives. You are a good example to all of us.
I would love to get up there again this fall. Let me know if you need a share partner for gas and catching, I mean fishing. Haha.

I remember seeing you in your Tracker boat. Did you catch anything else? The algae in spots was terrible where I first started to fish but once I was close to Haws Point there was very little moss and the fishing really improved. Especially when the wind came up.
Also, I love to take kids to Strawberry to fish. I took a neighbor and his two boys 8 and ll years old about a month ago and we trolled that same area with lead core line and pop gear with night-crawlers. We caught 9 fish that day and they had a great time. We probably lost another half dozen with the kids jerking the hook out of the fish's mouth. It was a good learn experience for them.I was mainly driving the boat and navigating but I had as much fun as they did.
