December at Starvation
#1
There haven't been any recent reports from Starvation so a buddy and I decided to do some research on our own. We put in at Rabbit Gulch just before 10:00 and fished until 1:30. Our day was cut short by a miserable wind out of the west. We were in tubes using fly tackle and managed to pick up a few fish, all rainbows in the 18" to 19" range. The water temperature was 42-43 degrees and the visibility was about 7' - 8' in the water. We used size 6-8 bead head buggers in brown, black/orange, and black/copper. We also used soft hackles in the same colors. It was calm when we started and was nice up until about 11:30 - 12:00 and then the wind picked up and made things difficult. There were some other guys on pontoons that were also hooking some fish. The reservoir level is at 83% full and rising.

It was kind of a disappointing day because we don't like to quit so soon after driving all the way over there.[:/]
