I went over to big blue this morning to try for the Whitefish. Well it was a little choppy as I launched, but before I got a line in, the dang wind monster showed up with 3' waves and I couldn't hold the boat where I wanted it and soon the waves were almost rolling over the front of the boat, my gear kept getting tipped over in the boat and when the back end of the boat was into the waves they filled that trough in front of my motor so I chickened out and headed back over the mountain to Hyrum. Launched there around 11:30 and it was just a few ripples and lots of hungry 11-12"ers. Probably caught 20-25 in the next two hours. Couldn't keep two poles out for all the bites. Did get one 14"er. Sure was nice to have calm water and hungry fish even if they were small. At least I got the skunk out of the boat. Oh and I probably lost as many fish as I caught today. I couldn't keep them on. Ended up using my ultra light rod and wow was that fun. Made the small fish seem like good ones. Sorry no pictures. Later J

Skunked, CVFISHER, myself and his son drove over the hill yesterday. Got to Cisco Beach about nine. We didn't even attempt to put the boat in the water, but stood on shore and donated some hardware to the rocks. After 30 minutes we loaded up and drove to the west side and put the boat in at the marina. Not as much wind, but still plenty cold. Fished till three. No whities caught, but did see a few end up in other boats. Maybe next weekend.

That was probably me pulling out about the time you were at Cisco. I drove by the state park marina on the other side but figured the wind wasn't going to get any better so I didn't try it there. Sorry you guys didn't find a few for all your efforts. It was a tough day. Later J

Hey, I saw y'all there fishing just out from the mouth of the marina. I assumed that you would have caught a few, but too bad that you didn't do so well. It was a rough day yesterday and the fish weren't biting very well. I came to the marina around 12 or so and joined in with my cousins on their boat just to the south of you (4 of us). We didn't do that good either. I caught 6 whitefish and one cousin caught two and one caught a native cutthroat. We stayed till 3 and had enough punishment for the day.

Hey Jeff,
Too bad that it didn't work out for you yesterday up here. My uncle and cousins also were at Cisco in a 16' aluminum smokercraft and almost swamped it. They bugged out around 10:30 with no bites or fish to show for it and headed for the marina to try again. Wasn't too good there either.
I didn't get done with the town Xmas party till around 11:30 and by the time I got my clothes changed it was already noon and I didn't figure I would have time to run over to Cisco beach to find you. Looks like you made the wise choice anyway by getting off the lake when you did. It is good to hear that you had such great action at hyrum though. That pond can be a lot of fun.
Well, better luck next time. The whitefish are just starting so there will be plenty of time to try it again.

I almost headed up there on Saturday, but after my long drive to Henrys on Friday I decided I was too tired to make the drive. After reading your report I am even more glad of the choice that I made. I will get after them on Wednesday.
Are there any docks in the water on the east side and if yes at which ramp(s)?

I was at bear lake yesterday myself, I was in a Blue and White Starcraft with the top up. I was alone this time as the guy that was going to go with me couldn't go.
I launched at the marina around 830am or so, my intentions were to fish for some whitefish and then go to the rockpile for some mack jigging. Well first off I left all of my Whitefish tackle at home as well as my heavy boots . But I did remember all of my other tackle for the macks and trolling. ( Early Morning case of CRS ), anyway I decided to go to the rockpile and try my luck with the Macks or Cutthroat. There were 3 or 4 boats already there , so i joined in. Not much action happening I heard some cheering from one of the boats and shortly after that I caught my only fish of the day. About a 4lb Cutthroat. after that the water started to get very choppy and I couldn't control the boat any longer. I got back to the marina around 3ish , and saw 2 boats at the mouth of the marina still trying for Whitefish. maybe I'll check out next weekend for another trip.

Hey Mike I seen that boat go out and I shuttered with 3 guys in a dinky boat and waves the size they were, but I figured they were locals because they seemed to know what they were doing.
Glad you didn't try to find me where I took off. Sure hope the weather improves. Later J

Kent Cisco has a rolling dock by it and I think first point does as well. They help for getting in and out, but they were starting to ice up so be careful on them.. You did make the right call, I wish I would have saved that trip for a better time. Wednesday looks dang cold but probably the best wind day so I've looked at it myself. Good luck. J

I made it to the big blue too. Chatted with AFDan while out on the rockpile and back at the ramp. We caught 4 native cuttys. It was strange to see everyone getting off of the lake at the same time. I was in the tan/green Columbia boat.

Well Jeff, they may be local, but they sure didn't know what they were doing!! If I had been with them I would not have let them launch. Going down in this weather...even 20 yards from shore....can be a life changing mistake. It's just a stupid fish and not worth the risk.
I went out this morning (played hooky from church) and the three of us limited on whitefish in about two hours, and that was with culling the catch and throwing some small ones back for seed. Funny the difference one day can make. Weather was a lot nicer today too during the time we were out. I've included a few pics including the smallest fish i've seen caught on a hook in bear lake.

Yup let's hope for some better weather for next week. Glad you got a nice one. Nice to know so many of the folks on the pond when things get rough. I had a nice guy and his friends help me get my trailer in the water and they sure saved my bacon and my boat. I could have really ruined things if I would have left the boat to the waves while I got the truck in the water. Anyway I'll catch ya later J

Man Mike you sure have the touch for whitefish. Congrats on another great trip. Way to go. One day I'll get there on a good day. Some of those fish were really big. That's great. Thanks for the feed back again. Later J

I battled the weather on Saturday. Fishing was difficult but i did manage 7 cutts and a few whites. I was in the white and black boat out in front of the marina, (in the orange hat) Hoping to make it up a couple times this week.

Nice job, I thought I only seen one boat at the mouth of the marina when I did a drive by at 10:00 ish.... Three guys in a little boat, looked like the waves were still rocking them, even in the shielded area from the marina... I've been watching the weather and it looks like the lowest wind day is Wednesday when the lowest temps roll in... I don't think I'm going to waste a vacation day on a maybe it will be fishing weather... I think I need Mike to set up a wind monitor over there so I can check the wind speed before I spend the money and time to run over the hill... I'd sure like to go, but sure hate the wasted trip if I don't get to fish where I think I can catch one.. but sometimes you have to take the gamble to ever get the pay off... Congrats and good luck this week... J
