It's not a smitty, it's a ice tent platform. I saw the new BayRunner ice sled and liked the idea of setting up and being able to move around the ice quickly from place to place without tearing down and setting up. I find myself sitting to long at a hole because I don't want to tear down and set up. This was especially true on stormy days. The problem with the BayRunner is it's too small. Your sitting right on top of your holes, you can't stand up and if the slush monster is out it fills with water. I would love to have an ice shack like they do in Minnesota, but we don't get that kind of ice.
Behold the Redneck platform 1.0. Its the best of both worlds. It's two 4x8 pieces of plywood mounted on a 2x4 frame and hinged together. Each piece of plywood has its own set of skis. 5 gallon buckets with screw on lids for hatches. Folds in half for transport and once unfolded and set up it can be pulled around lake with a 4 wheeler

Very interesting !! I assume you transport in the back of a Pickup or on a trailer. How hard is it to get up in the bed ?? Pretty cool overall !!

Thanks! Great idea! We think alike regarding moving a tent and though I don't have a design nor time to build one this season, the main ddifference in my thinking is less robust and much lighter particularly since I would have to haul it myself without the benefit of a four wheeler. I might make something out of TIG welded aluminum ... someday. I'll post what I build.

It should pull great. It weighs under 200# which is about what one person weighs. The skis go in both directions so it can be pulled forwards or backwards. Each skis is 9 feet long, so even when folded it has less weight per square inch than me walking. I have a 16 foot trailer I use when I take the 4 wheel out. Can't put the 4 wheeler and the sled in my truck bed anyway. I would be able to just drive in on the trailer. Because it's multi directional it should slide right off. My sled will fit on top off the platform during transport which I will do on the ice. If getting the sled on and off is hard I will add a small ramp

Very cool Idea. I like the use of the buckets with the screw on hatches.

If the wind is blowing I have an insert that seals the bucket to the ice

I'm not completely thrilled with the inset. It something that needs to be removed when moving and stored when not in use. Trying to come up with something better like a flexible rubber sleeve.

You may be able to just use the slush and ice shavings form drilling the hole.

Great thought I can see. When you go for a few days it will really make things easy, and holding in the heat, it will really help. I think you will need some more inventing to help you pull fish up the bucket. No question you will need a wheeler, with chains. I would love to see you in action. Post one of your trips so we can come sèe the fish condo in action. Drop me a pm if you would prefer not to have a audience.
