Got there kind of late, around 11am and decided instead of drilling ho;es I would just fish in abandoned ones.
My first selection was less than stellar with no bites coming. I continued deeper twords where I could see people with perch next to them. in about 40 ft of water I started to get bites, ever so gently and right off the bottem, But the guy near me was hauling them in so I asked what they were using. A green twisted about 9" above a pink head ice jig with a waxie.
I switched from my castmaster green foxie rig to the same curly and pink only with a piece of worm. Soon I had 2 on the ice and was getting bites on every drop. When the folks who had there limits of 10 each for the 6 of them I took over their holes and soon had several more on the ice. My 4 year old was having a blast hauling them after I set the hook and we lost several at the hole.
By 3 pm we had 11 between us and he had steped in an old hole and was wet to his knee so we left. When I got them home and began cleaning them I was both and glad to see most were big bellied females with a huge roe sack in their bellies! I've begun curing them and will slice them into hot bacon grease to serve for breakfast with poached eggs and toast.
What is the Easiest way to clean these little fellers anyway. I have what seems like a good method but it still takes a while to clean 10.
