Barry and I were planning to go to Bear Lake today to catch some whitefish (Barry hasn't caught any from Bear Lake.), but just like the last trip we had scheduled up there to catch some whitefish, the weather forecast scared us off. So, we grabbed our short rods and headed to Huntington.
When we reached the top of Fairview canyon we found a road that hadn't been plowed yet and it was snowing hard with fog. We cut our own path, at about 20 MPH, until we arrived at Huntington. Was worried that we would find a slush monster, but with the exception of some slush pockets on the ice (which were no big deal with the slush being only about 6 inches deep in those spots) we were pleasantly surprised. Ice is in multiple layers but appeared to be plenty safe.
It was a typical day on Huntington. We were marking lots of fish but we could get very few of them to bite. Barry was more successful than I was (Had I switched to glow lures sooner I probably would have done much better.) in figuring out the combination to get them to bite. I would give the catching a good, but not great score.
Used my new electric drill/Nils auger and I couldn't be happier. It cut through the ice with ease and we must have drilled 30 to 40 holes and didn't need to change batteries.
Another fun outing with Barry.
