Mantua
#1
I'm planning on taking the kids to Mantua tomorrow probably along with the rest of northern Utah. Is the ice in good enough shape to not have to worry about where we go? I know there are some warm springs just not sure where. I've gone near the dam in the past but just looking for a suggestion on where's the safest ice. Thanks for your input.

Take caution where ever you go. Especially with the recent snow fall. It's good to like for signs of others who have been there before and look to see where others currently are. The dam area and the south side are good bets to find good ice. Good luck to you and the kids!

Hey if you're refering to the spring I mentioned it's in the southeast section, if you draw a line from the trail by the no parking signs, (east end), to the knoll you will come close to crossing it... Watch for irregularities in the ice color and go around them and just be prepared in case you cross a bad spot, and step quick if you feel the ice give... Most spots are only a couple feet in diameter, so the likelyhood of crossing one is really small... Plus with the extra cold lately, they may be safe now...

Hope you can go have a great time and don't stress too much about bad ice, but be careful in case you cross the bad spot... you may want to follow the tracks of others, if it held them it will likely hold you... Go single file and spread a ways apart so if the worst happens there will be part of your group to help you out..But by now I really think your okay on Mantua... I may see you there, but may try Hyrum it's a little thinner ice, but should be okay now... Hopefully more options will spread the crowd tomorrow... Later J
