You WILL need a plank
#1
[#800000]Drove by Pineview, Echo, and Rockport today and found very few folks out on the ice. One truck in the Cemetery Point lot and 2 souls walking out from the north side. Watching them walk indicted crusty conditions that they kept breaking through making it difficult to walk. The parking lot itself was NOT plowed this morning and I hade a Hell of a time turning my truck and trailer around.[/#800000]

[#800000]Went to Echo next and rode my snowmobile to the ice edge at the bottom of the boat ramp and tried to get on the ice - and failed. There were 3 people out on the ice and all used a plank to do so. Two were at the first pull off near the dam and the 3 person was at the second pull off past the campground.[/#800000]

[#800000]Then drove over to Rockport and went all the way into the boat ramp. Nobody there. There were about 9 or 10 vehicles at the dam and maybe 20 people on the ice. They needed a plank to get on. Talked to 2 folks coming off at 10 and they said they hadn't had a single bite and only saw 1 fish caught.[/#800000]

[#800000]We will head back to Echo tomorrow and WILL have the plank with us. The ice looked like frozen slush everywhere and we couldn't see any indication that the 3 on the ice were sinking in at all.[/#800000]

[#800000]That's my story and I'm sticking to it! ;D[/#800000]

Thanks Bob,
I've also been wondering what to try Saturday... I think you convinced me to do the ultra light trip with a little gear, bucket and a plank... Not sure which pond yet... Thanks J

Thanks for the report on ice conditions. Good of you to take the time for checking things out and letting us know, even if you couldn't get some fishing in.

With the colder temps, it looks like things should improve for the weekend.

Good luck if you go again.

Thanks for the reports. A few years ago I went to Yuba and brought a nice 12' 2x12 to access the ice. Worked like a charm. Only problem was when I tried to get off the ice the plank was gone. Got wet getting off. Now if a plank is needed I pull it out onto the ice!

Below was on the Strawberry Marina facebook page. Hopefully they can clear the roads today or it might me tough fishing the Berry this weekend. Crazy Weather!!

"Update: we have found a piece of equipment and will be working non stop to open by Saturday morning. As the day unfolds tomorrow, we will update with progress.
Due to excessive snow and equipment failure, the marina and road will be closed until Monday. If this changes we will update. Rooms and snowmobile reservations will be contacted shortly. There are no plowed lots in the valley at the moment!"

[#800000]On the ice now. Walked on with no plank at the Echo boat ramp. Lots of folks out here today. One 9" perch thus far. [Smile][/#]
