That "only this little bit" argument is a common one. Remember it next time you go swimming and somebody says he only passed one little turd in this whole pool.

Very true, I can definitely see where you are coming from. As I said, I usually don't use it. The turd argument however, is an invalid one. The ratio of the volume of a turd compared to the volume of a pool would be like a swimming pool full of WD 40 being dumped into a reservoir the size of starvation. Of course that would be bad!
In 13 years I've used less than one quarter of a small pocket sized container of WD 40, so while I'm not an advocate of WD 40 as attractant due to the fact that 9 times out of 10 it's more harm than good as far as the bite goes. [crazy]
Fun fact: One ammonia and water based pee on the ice at any given lake has FAR worse effects on aquatic life not to mention a higher volume to make a more noticeable difference. If you really want to make a difference let's figure out how to stop all those evil ice and lake pissers.[

That argument is invalid, also. The birds and fish all pee and poop into the water. Damn few of them spray WD-40 into it.
I agree that a spritz or two make no impact. But if a few hundred anglers use a spritz or two every day, there's more chance of a real impact.

Off the OP topic for a second, My sister is into all the health things, and practices them religiously, then lights up another cigarette. Her defense, she only smokes a few, and by practicing healthy things counter acts the cig.
In my original post, I merely stated that WD40 is a Petroleum product. Does not mix with water, therefore a pollutant. Little or a lot, same results.
Gas motors are another topic.

FG, dear lady, there is nothing about humans that makes us entirely rational or consistent. Rather the reverse, in fact.
Somewhere deep in our brains, all of us have a red wire connected to a blue one. That's what makes a few of us into Jeff Dahmer or Hitler - and a lot more of us into Michelangelo, Edison, Churchill, Plato, Jobs, Newton, Hawking...

I have used this in the past to mask my scent on things such as lures and bait. I have only used it while fishing for catfish and carp which are more scent sensitive so to speak. I also had been told that it is not allowed. When I asked a dwr agent about it I was told that as long as you are in an area that bait is allowed you are fine to use it but it is discouraged because of the polluting it creates. In essence it is up to the angler whether they want to use it or not but some of my biggest fish have been caught on the days when I have used this product. Although I don't use it everytime.

I wonder if that was the same DWR agent who had never heard of yellow perch being in Deer Creek? Because if he/she thinks WD-40 is bait, then he/she is a dimwit.

Rock, he said "as long as you are in an area that bait is allowed "
More for the dimwits that may try it on waters that DON'T Allow bait. For example, the Middle Provo. No bait, no scent, no flavoring.

But what if you pee on your flies?
Ewwwwwww! Yuk!

You are using Corn, but you still need WD40? You need to take up Fly Fishing then. The fly does it all.[

[shocked] Read your regs
Quote:Bait means a digestible substance, including
worms, cheese, salmon eggs, marshmallows
or manufactured baits including human-made
items that are chemically treated with food
stuffs, chemical fish attractants or feeding
stimulants.
[shocked] In black and white.

Used to do the fly fishing thing, but the fish I was catching were big enough for sturgeon bait. Ha ha ha. Appreciate the passion, you guys rock. Smelly jelly has petroleum base?

I understand the regs. What I said was, " if he/she thinks WD-40 is bait, then he/she is a dimwit."
What part of that do you disagree with?
[signature]
If it attracts fish , where I am from that is considerd bait . There are waters I fish , I will catch 5 fish to every 1 . If I am using it and they are not .
