I have friends and family that tie alot of flys . Some are big and gaudy and look like nothing natural , and they still catch fish . I am talking about the flys , not my friends and family .
Maybe because you are thinking like a person and not a fish.
Big and gaudy flies push (move) a lot of water. That is exactly what baitfish do too. The natural movement of the material mimics fin movement...its very natural. Fish that eat other fish key in on the movement, and once they get closer their lateral line starts to feel the tiny vibrations and motion of the prey and they eat it...It doesn't have to look perfect to work, it just has to move through the water... its that simple.
Can you tell me what is so natural about WD-40?

Dump a little gas in that same aquarium and see what happens to the fish , thats what you are doing everytime you start a boat motor . You going to outlaw all boats .

You are not worth the time of day.
Don't change the subject. Answer the question, what is so natural about WD-40? This isn't about boat motors.
You can't catch fish without WD-40, that tells us everything we need to know.

I don't have any idea why it works , all I know is it does . Sometimes I will have 8 people fishing off my boat . All with two pole permits . We try all different baits until we find what they want that day . Almost always the ones sprayed with wd will catch 5 to 1 over the one that is not .

I only use it about 10 percent of the time and only when bait fishing . You said your friends use all kinds of scents while fishing with you and you out fish them . I find it real hard to believe you have friends .

There is a creative dig if I ever saw one. I'm surprised you know what 10% is.

I've caught bows on gum, and watch my brother catch one with an old cigaret butt....
I think in some situations , they will bite any thing that smells.
But nothing beats a worm and marshmallow !!!
Or rainbow sparkle power bait

[#800000]Boy, this is a tough crowd. Most of you fail in comprehending what the guide book actually says. You continue interpreting it to suit your predetermined idea of what it says. For example, Fishrmn thinks his quote says you can't legally put WD-40 on a fly or lure that is going to be used in waters that are listed as being "artificial flies or lures only". Might I suggest you read that quote again and break it down into its component parts. Here, let me show you what I mean.
From the 2014 Fishing Guidebook. Emphasis added.
Artificial lure means a device made of rubber, wood, metal, glass, fiber, feathers, hair or plastic with a hook or hooks attached.
Artificial lures (including artificial flies)
do not include fish eggs
do not include other chemically treated or processed natural baits
do not include any natural or human-made food
do not include any lures that have been treated with a natural or artificial fish attractant or feeding stimulant.
Now you may think that you have me based on that last item above, do not include any lures that have been treated with a natural or artificial fish attractant or feeding stimulant. But none of you have proven yet that WD-40 is in fact been certified by the Utah legal system as a natural or artificial fish attractant or feeding stimulant.
And just so you know, I have never used WD-40 in the past, I don't use it today, and I don't intend to use it in the future as a fish attractant or feeding stimulant. But so far, I haven't seen any certified proof that WD-40 is in fact illegal to use on any waters within the Utah state boundaries or that some angler has been convicted of such illegal use by a Utah state court.
Life is good and this is fun. [cool]

What about #2? Chemical....or what about petrolium?
Hard to prove it's not a feeding stimulant as the ones that use it say it is.[

No no no, you shouldn't put #2s jn the water ever. That's worse than a # 1 on the ice or off a boat!
Pretty sure most plastics are not edible, or biodegradable.
Fresh vs foul: I'd agree that cats may be drawn to stinky stuff, but given a blind, side by side taste test, I'd put my money on the fresh bite.
Have heard of hanging a roadkill from a tree over the water, then fishing below, where all the maggots have been falling. Not in Utah, but...
I don't have any idea why it works , all I know is it does . Sometimes I will have 8 people fishing off my boat . All with two pole permits . So, if you have 16 poles in the water at the same time, the ones with WD40 on the bait catches more fish (5-1).
Then at what time do those 16 lines with bait on all have WD 40 dripping off them (because logic/common sense would dictate sooner or later everyone on board would want to catch fish) and how much of that crap is being dumped into Henrys or wherever you fish?
[signature]
At Henry's we use Preparation H , that is why the averge size of the fish is getting smaller .

I feel that WD-40 used as an attractant can be compared some what to the wonderful topic of the air quality (inversion) in the Wasatch front. IT affects all of us, we all live down stream. Pollution is pollution! As for the smokers I am one, and usually fish with others that do as well and find myself pickin up every ones butts or finishin a beverage and sayin heres your ashtray. I do feel Ice fishing produces alot if not most our lakes pollution issues. I'm always picking up all sorts of garbage, Sad really. The chosen few that that make us all look bad.[:/]

Really?!? Three months worth of ice fishermen versus 9 months of bank tanglers, boaters, jet skiers, wake boarders. It's a lot more visible on the ice, but by the same measure, it's a lot easier to hide during the open water seasons. If someone drops a can on the ice it's there for everyone to see. If someone drops a can the lake it sinks to the bottom. Out of sight, out of mind.

But, ( or maybe butt). It's harder to squat on open water[laugh]
For sure though, once a pig.
I went to the river yesterday and there on the shore, shrimp bag, and the grocery bag, and the little red straw like on WD40 cans. I cannot prove that was where it came from however, just saying it was the same straw.
I do wonder what these people think will become of this. Magically disappear?
[signature]
Easier to just jump in during open water. No need to squat.

I was referring to #2! Eeeewwwwww. I am remembering a scene from Caddy Shack. [laugh]

And just what do you think the water-skiers do when the need arises?!? Quit skiing? Or just conveniently drop down into the water?
