Strawberry Snow
#1
Couple of questions. First, how much snow is on the ice and can you still navigate with a 4-wheeler there. Also, how do the springs affect the ice thickness. I fish around a couple of springs that are about 20' deep in the summer with good luck and want to try it there next week. This late in the year is there any danger of going through?

Solid ice! 12-`15 thick! Don't worry about falling through until warm weather returns in april... but practice caution though for commonsense.

I seen a couple of atv's out on the ice last week so you should be o.k! I don't know about the springs though? I just wouldn't get right next to the shore cause thats where the thin ice would be if any!

All I would suggest stay away from any areas that have current like the ladders, the moving water can make Ice thickness change, I would also make several checks of Ice thickness before venturing too close to the springs with an ATV. [cool]

Well I haven't been to the Berry since our last storm. But Daniels got a healthy 17" of the white stuff. I would suggest calling the ranger station in Heber and asking them . Fishing the springs can be very productive any time of the year.

Thanks to all for the info. Any future updates on the snow on the ice would be appreciated. [Smile]

Well first thing, you should always use caution on the ice. Every year there are snowmobiles that go thru the ice at the berry above warmsprings that have made the ice soft. My uncle went thru 15 inches of ice at the berry one year on a cold day. Just a little advice: use caution.
