[size 3][font "Times New Roman"]A Lynn Haven man has been sentenced in Bay County court for his part in the killing of at least nine deer and dumping the carcasses off a Bayou George road in early October. [/font][/size]

[size 3][font "Times New Roman"]Elliott Charles Melvin, 18, 3323 Country Club Drive, will pay a $2500 fine; forfeit a rifle and shotgun to the state of Florida; have his hunting privileges revoked for three years; be required to perform 50 hours of community service with a wildlife or animal agency; be placed on probation for 12 months; attend a hunter safety course; write a letter of apology to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC); and, write an essay. [/font][/size]

[size 3][font "Times New Roman"]Melvin plead no contest and was found guilty of taking deer by illegal methods; willful waste of wildlife; and shooting from a road right-of-way. Two other defendants, Phillip David Christensen, 21, Youngstown, and Michael Edward Nelson, Jr. 28, Lynn Haven, still face their day in Bay County court. [/font][/size]

[size 3][font "Times New Roman"]FWC law enforcement officers said a total of nine deer were dumped at the end of Wedgewood Lane off Highway 2301 on Oct. 2 and 3. Some of the deer had the “back straps” or choice edible meat removed. The antlers had been cut off the bucks. [/font][/size]

[size 3][font "Times New Roman"][/font][/size] [size 2]The investigation revealed that Melvin and the other defendants cruised a number of roads in Bay and Calhoun counties late at night in late September and early October shooting at deer feeding near the roadways.[/size]
