That is a great story. I'm glad you got your fish and didn't lose any blood doing it. It would have worse if the pelican had gotten a hook in it. I've hooked a few gulls over the years (not in UT) and even had a grebe take a live shad in New Mexico. They all took a fair amount of line off the reel on their airborne runs. A pelican would spool you for sure[Wink]
