What waters do you plan to fish? You can fish the Jordan, Utah Lake, or many other waters for catfish. In Utah Lake and the Jordan, the simplest setup is to just use a nightcrawler or a piece or carp or sucker meat for bait, let it rest lightly on the bottom with little or no weight. Make sure you have heavy line -- bare minimum 8 lb test but you really should have 10 lb. or higher. April and May are traditionally good months to catch some big channel cats, as well as throughout the summer months. Fishing at dusk usually works well, as well as early morning. The middle of the day can sometimes be tough as the fish go deep seeking cooler water.
