I agree with BEARCLAW a #6 Panther Martin black body with gold blade works almost anywhere. Try a smaller one on creeks.
I've found a real Berry killer is to drift a 1/8 to 1/4 ounce 3"curly tail jig with a piece of worm on it. This works best when the wind comes up between about 2pm -5pm. Cast out about 30-40' and set the pole down, the waves will do the jigging. The best thing about the jig is that the fish are hooked in the lip and you can release them without pulling out of the water.
