Melt ski wax, surf board wax, or even good old paraffin and paint it on with a brush and you'll be glad you did when you're trudging through the tundra. Make sure the bottom of the sled is real warm when you paint it on so it bonds good. You can hit it with a blow dryer afterwords if you want it to bond real good. And watch out for yellow snow.
