Excelllent analysis, Rabid Fisher! Those Holmes Creek bass don't get any girth or weight or much size for a reason....bass tapeworm. That body of water has more bass tapeworms per bass than anywhere else in utah although Mantua bass have a ton too. However, Mantua bass are still healthy cause there's more to eat there still. These bass tapeworms are widespread though. Bluegils appear to the most prevalent intermediate host. Bass eat the gills, and the liver of the bluegill is were the bass tapeworm cysts reside and consequently infect the bass. Upon close examination, I have found one more interesting phenomenon in Holmes Creek bass......they have a tough lining around the internal organs that seems to be a population specific evolution feature that is beginning to block some of the tapeworms.
