Glad you got into them. I have also had those days at Strawberry when it seemed like the entire reservoir was full of fish, and then there have been those other days when I have been of the opinion that there are less than 10 fish in the entire place. Enjoy the great trips when you get them, because they don't happen every time. As far as your question goes, your experience is the opposite of what I have typically experienced. I have caught a hand-full of rainbows trolling any type of lure at Strawberry. Most of the rainbows I have caught at Strawberry have been on some type of bait fished on the bottom (or sometimes a jig that has little motion fished on the bottom), and mostly in shallower water.
