I have found when the water is cold its not a problem realesing Tigers. They usually swim right off as soon as they are back in the water. The smaller guys are alot tougher than the Big ones when it comes to release. In the summer months the big guys take some time to revive if taken out of the water for a photo. Dont worry that guy when back in the water snout first like a diver!!! He was returned very healthy. Lol. Cant say much for my hand 
Thats the problem with putting your hand through the gill plate of small ones. They have small mouths and your fingers are alot closer to all the teeth and trebble hooks!!!!!!!!!
