Lake Cuyamaca anyone??
#29
[green][cool]My fly fishing club is getting together at Laguna Niguel next month. Following is info from our newsletter:[/green]

DIRECTIONS:
Go south on 5 Freeway.
Take the La Paz exit and drive west toward the ocean about 4 miles. You will enter the park and pay $5 entry fee (you will get $2.50 credit toward your lake fee at the concession (stand).

After entering the park , take two left turns, drive up the hill and look for the concession stand on the left. Park in the parking lot and go into the concession stand to purchase your daily fishing pass. That will cost you $20. If you plan to fish out of a float tube, that will cost you another $10. If you want to fish the lake, but are not interested in being partly submerged in the water, you can rent a boat for a half day or full day.
After you get your pass, use the rest room located next to the parking lot. You may launch your float tube there by the boat dock or you can drive about ½ mile down the road to another smaller parking area by the side of the road. Just down the hill is the old launch ramp that is convenient for launching a float tube.
Launch your float tube and go fishing.

If you want to do “midge” fishing you should stay in the shallow water which is all of the lake to the right of the small island all the way up to the creek entrance to the far west end of the lake. The average depth is about
8-12 feet in this area.

You can also successfully strip streamers in this area. Don’t get too close to shore or the shore anglers will toss their weighted line right at you and throw a few colorful words your way too.

GEAR:
For midging:
Floating line with indicator of your choice
4x or 5x fluorocarbon tippet Midge flies (you can purchase at Marriotts- the best flies are the ones made by Sierra drifters) in size 16-18
(I use mostly 16) Small split shot (about size 10)
Or if you want to strip streamers:
Type 3 intermediate line Fluorocarbon tippet 3x-5x Streamers and maybe small nymphs as trailers such as copper johns or prince nymphs etc.
