Ok, I have a couple myths for you that I still hear frequently.
1. "Fishing is the best during the worst, wettest, windiest weather". Exceptions occur, but in my fishing, calmer weather seems to produce better results than unsettled conditions. (Or maybe I just enjoy my outings more in nice weather)
2. Walleye are "pike".
3. The myth that C&R "doesn't work" (it obviously does if done correctly) has already been mentioned but one variant that I hear too often is that any fish caught with bait or bait tipped jigs will invariably die, regardless or where the fish is hooked. The reason bait fishing has high mortality is because the fish usually swallow the hook deeply, potentially hitting vital anatomic and then the people try to retrieve the hooks. If one can "actively" bait fish and hook the fish in the jaw like a fly ( not letting the fish swallow the hook), then the mortality goes down markedly. Nonetheless, I still hear guys say that anything not caught on a fly is a dead fish.
4. You can't fish seriously, and catch cool fish while you have little kids with you. see pics.
5. And finally..... the all time BFT favorite, "There are Blue cats in Utah lake!"
