] Ok here is my try at it! I've been told, and also saw it stated in some old "fishing tips" publications, that you must be careful what you get on your hands on the day that you fish. Specically it stated that you should handle gasoline only on the day before fishing and stay away from strong smelling things like aftershave, etc.. Reason being that you eventually will transfer the scent to the terminal tackle and somehow spook the fish.
Well I think this has to be labeled a myth, because now we know that scents, even crazy ones like garlic, corn, anise, and yes some DW-40 fisherman (oil product), draw the fish in even if they wouldn't link it with food. Powerbait is making a fortune off scented bait.
A further testament is that I used to worry about applying sunscreen that was quite strong smelling. But I have found that I have had great fishing days at Powell using sunscreen every day of the trip.
