I can tell you are not sure what happens to perch when pulled from deep water over 15'...
For one thing if you get the perch and it comes off your hook and swims back to the bottom it does not die from the air bladder... But if you keep that same fish (perch) out of the water and hold it to long or tight it is dead...
Using barbless hooks and letting them get off at or below the ice is not against the law at any lake even Yuba....To be counted as caught you must pull the fish out of the ice hole....
