Bass Or Catfishing In Southwest Idaho??
#10
I've pulled some hogs out of CJ, primarily on the Cottonwood Side....problem is, you're not going to have much luck until May or June. The bass and perch will start biting well the last week of March or first week of April-the best month IMO is May.....Crappie also picks up well in April-May, but the best fishing is when the water temp gets above 50 degrees. You can drop shot for smallmouth year round in the narrows and the snake channel upstream from the dam, but the bass are really lethargic and when you bring them up from 40-50 ft too quickly, their airbags usually deploy and you have to puncture it or they die........I was in a boat last year off the levee at cottonwood and watched a lady fishing on the bank catch an 12 lb cat with a crappie setup....we had to motor over and net it for her. CJ is probably the most fun place to fish over there due to the variety and likelihood that you'll catch stuff, but the bite won't pick up well for at least 2 months. Lake Lowell is ok, Anderson Ranch is ok, but lots of small bass and not good unti May or June. Of course Brownlee is superb, but a long ways. There are many good places on the snake, but I wouldn't waste my time until the weather is better.

I've also fished Steck Park for channel cat, but the bite is good in May-June there.
