The fly I sent you is a good fly for stripers. Use it on sinking line. I usually fish for them in saltwater and look for water temps of 53 degree and structures during tide changes.
In lakes they seem to be more active in the heat of summer. They school up in the shallows and blitz on the baitfish usually early morn and evening. When they are in this mode you can throw pretty much anything you want. Poppers work good.
