Assuming we're supposed to list in order of preference...
Walleye
Perch
Crayfish
Catfish
Trout
All other panfish (crappie, bass, wiper, etc) taste about the same to me. But I also haven't gotten much chance to eat them, so maybe I miss any subtle differences with lack of experience?
Haven't tried carp yet, but I would like to some day! Just to see what it's like.
P.S.
I'm with you, on the reason for fishing. I'll practice catch and release when it's required (like for Tiger Musky), but if I can get a dinner out of it, I will! The main reason I hate getting skunked, is spending all the money, time and effort, and not getting something for it (the whole "being out in nature" doesn't count...I can do that for free in my back yard! LOL)
