contest..whos best?

I'm getting in on this thread a little late, but in my humble (and not worth much) opinion, I agree with the choices of jls02. There may be better rods, and there may be better reels, but to get the best bang for the buck, I don't think a person can do any better for basic trout fishing than a good ol' Orvis Battenkill (British style) and a St. Croix Imperial rod. I am glad to see that St. Croix is back at putting out the Imperial - I hope the new ones still fish as great as those they made a few years ago.
