actually, we were pulling out of las vegas wash and I saw a cormorant bird come up out of the water with what appeared to be a huge fish. The bird could not fly away with it and dropped it. It went back a second time and dropped it again. I swooped in and snatched it up. The thing was nearly 2lbs. [shocked]
I mean, dayum that is a huge shad. He was near sand island right in the center of the wash. Kinda bizarre. The water was at least 80' at that spot. I mean how far can that bird dive; maybe 20'. So you have 2lb shad cruising 20' or less of open water in the middle of the inlet part of the wash. I wonder how he grew so large with those swimming habits. A shad of that size, geez; I think it would take a 30plus fish to attempt it. those gizzards have some girth at that size.
Oh, and wear gloves when handling gizzards, they stink like no other fish [cool]
