Of the urban ponds, I have fished Floyd Lamb, Lorenzi, Mesquite and Veteran's (Boulder City). Most of my fishing has been at FL. I did not like Lorenzi, too trashy and too many bums. Veteran's in Boulder City is nice and quiet but there is little shade. But there is little fishing pressure there so catching fish is easy.
I never had any luck at FL using prepared baits like stinkbait or chicken blood nuggets. Using nightcrawlers, hotdogs or shrimp produced the most successful angling for cats. Also contrary to popular belief, catfish are not bottom dwellers. I've caught many catfish using nightcrawlers under a bobber. It depends on where the catfish are located in the water column for that day. On windy days I'll find cats on the top of the column. You have to experiment by starting at the top with a slip bobber and then work down to a slip rig until you catch fish. If you have a two rod stamp, use both methods.
Also try chumming using corn, dry dog food, canned cat food or chicken blood nuggets. Chumming is legal at the urban ponds. Throw out your offerring about 30 feet out, then cast your line in the area you chummed. I use a kid's plastic bat with the tip cut off and blocked with styrofoam to form a pocket for the chum.
There are times that the cats just aren't biting so perserevere. FL is heavily pressured especially after stocking, which is now only monthly. Check the NDOW website or call 486-6738 for the stocking reports. Then get out there within a few days. At FL the stocking truck drops its load at the southeast end of the big lake near the white pumping station. The cats will follow the shore line to the north and usually end up on the northwest corner by the white line waste station (big PVC pipe to dump used fishing line).
Good luck and tight lines.
