Need some varmint gun input

What about a .223 (AR-15), they are AWESOME, but expensive. I shot one and I got the fever for one, but couldn't pony up the money so I bought a .17 HMR that I have been VERY happy with. It's a rimfire like a .22 but the size of the the .177 pellets with a shell as big as a .22 long rifle magnum. They only come in bolt/lever action but they shoot flat, fast and accurate and relatively inexpensive. The bullet travels so fast it still turns things inside out, but probably not as bad as your bar.

I got the .223 & love it but still really enjoy the .17, I take them both if I'm varmit hunting.
