I always look for lures on the dead ones and brush. I found 3 tigers dead on the shore yesterday in a small walking area. This is becoming something I see every time now. Fisherman need to learn how to release them. These fish do not take more than a minute or maybe two to bring in with right tackle. They are big, but they come in easily. I understand if you have panfish light tackle on, but if you are targeting muskies, then one should get the fish in, maybe a quick picture and release them. One I saw on the banks yesterday had a gill hanging out of its side gill plate. That's just a bad release. You can cut your line if it is down that far. Its just
when I walk the shoreline at least once a week and see 3-5 new muskies lying there dead in a short walking distance. I fish different areas of the lake as well. I have seen people hold them up out of the water from their gill plate only without supporting their stomachs and have seen people try and pick them up for a picture only to have them drop 3-5 feet to the ground or boat because they either got scared or do not know how to hold them. These fish are actually pretty delicate and it does not take much to kill one.
