sulphar creek area?
#7
Hey Mooncricket, awesome you will be joining us for the derby you and your son will have a good time. All the previous posts are dead on for the type of fish in the lake. Although I haven't hooked a sucker in a couple of years now but I'm sure they're still there. You will mostly catch rainbows, but you can also catch browns or cutty's. There are those that can get the bass and the Walleye out there but I wouldn't worry about trying to target them too much, them things are a more a ghost than a real chance to catch. Just to give you some advice I generally fish in roughly 30' of water and typically do the best on the bottom of the column. With that said last time I was out most of the bigger fish were less than 10' down. There are several good spots on the lake. I will be more than happy to help you and the son get onto one of them, but am a little hesitant to shout them out on the world wide web. I will personally be taking people onto the ice for the derby in the morning and bringing them off in the afternoon. Flag me down when you get here and I'll get you there. Typically the size of the fish are around 15" or smaller, however you should be able to get at least a few a day better than the 16" mark. My wife won money in the Sulphur Derby a few years back with a bow that was just shy of 21". My advice is if you get one over the 16" mark at least bring it in for a shot at winning some money. The fish this year have been pretty good size and nice and fat. Most bows I've been landing have been between 15-17". Anyway, if you want feel free to PM me with any specific questions and I'll help the best I can without giving out "all" my secrets[Wink] Good luck to you. We also have some awesome prizes to be raffling off at the end of the day including gas augers, fish finders, heaters, jaw jackers, and pole set ups. Plus I'll run the softball girls out on the ice to sell food and drinks throughout the day. This derby is for them to raise money for their season. I've been forgetting to mention that they are the Wyoming defending 14U State Champs in our first year last year. I've attached the flyer and entry information again in case anyone else wants to join, we still have space for more contestants.[Smile]
