converting hand auger to power auger with hand drill?

I have a buddy that did this.....but he uses a miluakee 28v lithium ion...he said he says that its necessary if u wanna drill more than 2 holes to have that kind of battery capacity....if you dont have one they are 300 dollars or so...i think a used gas auger would b about that price. just my 2 cents
