In entomolgy, it is a Pupa. The early underwater stages of flying insects, which we are all familiar with in the warmer months. They are in ALL waters and are a main food source year round.
In fishing terms, it is a scud bent hook with or with out a bead, somewhite antron or a white bead will represent gills and the body....just thread and wire rib. Or V-rib tubing, or a bunch of other materials.[

Anyway, small wormie bug with white gills at the head.

You basically fish them under an indicator/bobber and suspend them off the bottom. When I shore fish I guess the depth at where I will be fishing...works pretty good.
