burbot in jordan river?

[quote dowhatwecan]The fish looks like a weather loach. They were illegally introduced into the Jordan River several years ago and have established a reproducing population throughout the Jordan River system, including the marshes surrounding the Great Salt Lake. These fish are a popular aquarium fish and likely as not an aquarium owner released some instead of properly disposing of them. I have attached a picture of a weather loach in an aquarium to compare. These fish really get active in the Jordan River during summer thunder storms and warm weather rain events. They can leave permanent water sources and "walk" to other suitable habitat.

I really hope that one day folks begin to understand the damage that these illegal releases can cause, but right now it seems each year we see a growing number of aquarium, sport and bait fish being illegally released at the detriment of many fisheries.
