I am not trying to make yuba a trout fishery, we have enough of them. I have made the comment on what a state wildlife biologist made, thats it. I know you can turn it into a trout fishery and they can live there. I have caught lots of trout in utah lake (no trout habitat at all) And I do understand the water issue, just throwing out ideas to have a baitfish that might be able to maintain itself, and trout are not the answer there.
1. When was the last time you went to yuba? It has more water in it right now then most other lakes. You guys make it sound like it dries up every year.
2. Wouldnt the northerns control most of the fish like they already have. Another bait fish just helps them grow in size and numbers. If northerns can eat 12-14 inch carp they can eat a white bass
3. The white bass would help on the carp minnows when they are small. Carp can and will spawn more then once a year. And the northerns would eat the bigger carp and white bass. Perch are a predator fish as well and they dont seem to do well in there anymore. Perch need weed beds, white bass not so much. Wipers were brought up earlier, that would compound the predator problem because they dont reproduce (no eggs or minnows for food)
4. Water? Yes it is not going to stay full, but it doesnt dry up. All lakes go up and down. Its not a drainage pond at the mouth of the canyon that they drain dry every year.
5. I will still fish it regardless of what they do, if the northerns can maintain themselves and whats left in the lake then good, I just hope they dont eat themselves out of house and home. I like catching northerns and would just like to make sure it stays good down there. Its nice to have something other then trout to fish for.
