Shad? Is there any reason the Utah agencies cannot attempt to try shad?
I know a few reservoirs in my home state, where the state stocks shad annually...if we get a bad winter there are big die offs, but they are persistent and stock them every year (I forget how many).
The difference is quite stark. Those lakes have very fat walleyes that grow quickly and get big (12+lbs). The shad that die sink to the bottom and the lake has massive channel cats too (15+lbs). Neighboring lakes without shad have much smaller specimens and growth rates are poor.
I'm not sure shad would be a perfect fix there, you need predators to take advantage of them. I'm sure the pike would and carp too, but eyes in particular would be the beneficiaries.
