ice fishing sled idea......
#27
I don't know anything about the science that others have been talking about, but I do know that the skis work like a charm. I built a platform sled this year to put under my giant husky sled. I have used it on bare ice and snow up to a foot deep and it is amazing. Before I had the skis I could hardly pull it even in small amounts of snow, now I almost feel like I am cheating because it pulls so easily. Last trip I took I loaded it with a tent, heater, propane, chairs, finders, and all my other gear plus my four year old and never had any issues.

I only used 2x4's in the construction but I have seen others use 2x6's to get additional height. Maybe that is a consideration but I have not had any problems yet. In the pictures below I wasn't quite finished but I have attached some eye bolts to the wood frame and use bungee cords to hold the sled to the frame. This has worked great and I have not had any problems with the sled coming off or tipping over, it hasn't even come close. I used some skis that I picked up for two dollars and cut them a little shorter to fit my needs. I drilled holes in the front of the skis where they curve up and attached a tow rope. This setup has been awesome, I have taken it out about ten different times now with no problems and I am not tired when I get to where I am going. This is a must for those who walk but still want to take all their gear. The best part was that is was less than $20 in material and it took about 1.5 hours to put together. If anyone wants better pictures shoot me a pm and I will take some of the finished project, or maybe you can see it one day on the ice.
