I was going to reference the difference in scat as well! Basically it comes down to your proficiency with a hand gun. I generally carry both when archery hunting Montana .357Mag on the hip and bear spray on the pack. I bought the counterassault pepper spray you should check out their website. After encountering a few different griz I can tell you first hand that it is very important to be prepared.

As mentioned.... I would pack both.
