Bucktail and many other fur and hairs are still popular with a lot of jig jerkers. It is durable and is available in most of the popular colors. It also works very well for larger jigs...especially for bass. But you can't beat the live action of good marabou. For small jigs and delicate presentations it is still considered the best by most serious jig makers and jig fishermen.
I like squirrel tail hair for a few jigs. I also like the arctic fox hair I recently got on a swap deal.
Oh yeah, strips of bunny fur also have a good live action and work well on jigs.

I love using squirrel tail, and bunny fur. I've tied up some bunnybous that have awesome action in the water.
