Strawberry advice for a noob

I am itching to take a trip down to strawberry for some fall fishing. Ive been there many times both in the spring and fall from the shore and have done well.. By my standards anyways.. To me a few large cutts have been enough to consider it a great day, but with all these stories of consistent 40+ fish days, Im starting to get the feeling im doing something wrong? I guess my biggest downfall is that i do not own a boat, so it limits my options a lot. My question is: can i achieve those same numbers from the shore? What lures should i use? Where should i go? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Im considering heading down there next weekend, is this a good time for shore fishing or should i wait? Thanks!!
