Tough call on the Main, as right now it's booming at 50,500 cfs, while the average is 32,700 for the 20th of May.
As for being first on the hole, and fishing the method that you want. That's a bit different. If you're the first guy on the hole then you should get to chose your casting place, but if you show up where guys usually drift fish, and you're throwing a bobber, you'll most likely catch some grief. Just as if your a drift fisherman and show up first on a bobber hole, or a stretch of River that is popular amongst fly-rodders.
We see the same problem with boaters vs bankies. When I'm in my drift boat I try to use the "golden rule" when I drift into a run where the guys on the bank are fishing. No different if I'm the one standing on the bank, as it should be expected that those in their boat respect that someone else is already fishing that stretch of River.
For most folks, it's easy to get along with other fishermen who are, for the most part, on the River to have a good time too.....
