Skunk-- I'm okay with whenever for a start. If the weather stays mild I'm bettin' Yote will give us an earlier start. I agree we need to help him out when we can. He takes on a pretty good load sometimes and if we get a few more addicts onboard he will need more help.
I like the heavier rods for cattin' too. I prefer "industrial strength" rods, medium heavy with a good reel and 30-50# braid. My "lighter" rods have 10-12# mono and a good reel with a good drag. I know lots of guys that can land a 25# cat on 6# line but I ain't one of 'em. When a big cat makes a break for the reeds/frags and its turn 'im or lose 'im I want a good heavy rod and line.
Rather rude of Sethook to show that C&R record cat again... kinda like passing a medium-rare porterhouse steak under the nose of a starving man. That fish was a 'bucket biologist" transplant from Utah Lake -- his mommy and daddy are alive and well near Bird Island. I plan to converge with them some time this summer.
Can't wait to get started. [sly]
