A real tournament? Oh hell no. Then people would be all about "first place price winning$". I've really appreciated the mutual comradery, respect, and at the same time back-stabbing, nailbiting, and bantering that's gone on between N and S. Some were against the team notion at the beginning, but I think it's allowed us to all be competitive, yet still be a bit silly at the same time. And I think the entrants have appreciated the contest for that very sake. I know I do.
PLUS - we HAVE to give the south a chance to redeem themselves one of these years. Believe we stand at 3-Nil since inception. And I know BLK is ready for a grudge match!
So - the boundary will remain. BUT there is an allowance that if someone doesn't want to join a team, they can free roam, and fish any waters. But their entries won't count towards a team score, but they still stand to be awarded the top score/prize.
I've decided I prefer to award "prizes" over "cash" as I think the smell of green-bills changes people's motivations. Hopefully we can drum up more prize awards and supporters.
During the floatilla we did talk about opening up entrants across the boundary for the "event" - and I'm ok with that. It would be fun to coordinate more get-togethers, maybe even just a fish-fry at Willard, or somewhere mid-way-ish. Perhaps this year we should descend on UL. I've only fished it once, and well, it wasn't a great day for catching (would have helped if the spark-plug-wires on my "new" antique motor weren't mis-wired, and mis-fired! Lucky I didn't start a fire!)
Yours, and everyone's input, comments, ideas, and opinions are all welcome.
I have had some "biggest fish of the month" awards, and biggest fish overall. Plus there is the carp-category (bows welcome even). But those wavefishing certificates don't receive the highest of praise. Plus last year was a bit tough for me personally, so hoping I can be more attentive this year. Seems like it's gotten longer every year, and promises to stretch the start/end dates again this year.
I will have rules and entries open by week's end, so everyone can express your love for cats by Valentines. (just don't tell the Mrs you'd rather be fishing, or that might be the only - "cut bait" you get to hook up with! haha)
Opening for entrants will be March 15th, and ending at the end of October (whew)
