Rabbits In Utah?

25 years ago when I used to hunt Fairview mostly, the rabbits, and deer for that matter, were covered in ticks, so we did not eat them from out there. When we wanted bunny food, we would go out by Delta and get the fat cottontails. I don't remember ever eating a Jack. My uncle likes to hunt bunnies with a 308, so there usually wasn't enough of them left to eat.

I've only shot two out here in the basin. Both were shot from the bedroom window in the back yard. I ate the cottontail and tried to bait coyotes with the Jack. I waited outside in the dark for three nights and then gave up. The next night they came in and took the bunny. I think I smell.

I almost forgot about one I shot with a slingshot when I lived at the edge of town. I didn't eat that cottontail.

I gave up on shooting the ones in the yard, and now have two cottontails living in the yard. I haven't seen one of them in a while. I hope she is underground having little bunnies. Considering the activity between the two, she should be.

In 1-2 inches of snow or less, I prefer a .22 because the rabbits will run farther and spook earlier. When you get 4 inches or more, a shotgun is the only way to go. The rabbits hold tight until you practically step on them and they only run 20-30yds most of the time.
