Not so. One thumb screw to take the auger off, put handle on, tighten the same thumb screw, and its a go.

Its nice to have the direct attachment, and I thought of making one, but the ergonomics of the clam can't be beat. And there is no risk of the chuck coming loose and the auger falling in. It's happened to many people, hence safety attachments for direct drill attachment.
