Today looked like the last decent fishing day at Lincoln for the next week or so with wind, rain, and snow predicted. Arrived at the launch at about 7:45 and had a good chat with Craig and Justin as they were getting ready to launch. The wind was mild and eventually calmed to glassy water. Water temp was 56 to 57.
Craig and Justin fished near the first spring and I went a little farther to the west and started dragging back toward the spring -- never had so much as a bump and never saw anything on the finder. I moved off to the flats about a mile east of the launch and found willing cats... lots of cats. At times it was hard to keep two poles in the water. The cats favored 3 - 5 inch carp fished on a flig. The chartreuse flig was the best producer. Lots of cats but no size to them... caught one 26 incher, the others were all cutters. Eventually ran out of bait and gave it up about noon.
Saw the carp seining crew with there caravan of boats heading for Provo. Looks like they are shutting down pending the predicted rough weather. Saw a few carp clusters in the deeper water and some activity in close to the reeds. Soon.
Was disturbed to see what appeared to be an algal bloom in the launch channel?? A heavy greenish surface scum on the water. A harbinger of misery to come??
A good day but can't wait for warmer weather and mid-60s water temps.
The best is yet to come.
