Thanks, Robert,  That's really interesting and informative.  Can you go one step further and show how you made the two-sided molds?

Why?  Are they a petroleum-based product soon to be in short supply?

As to the home-made Apex/Pro-Troll lures - nicely done.  But I already have enough DIY hobbies, so I think I'll just order them up on-line and catch more limits of salmon & trout.  Using 4 Apex/dodger sets off 4 riggers, we had a 60 trout day at Echo in 2020 in just about 4 hours.  They are my go-to lures for kokanee at the Gorge.  The clear with purple strip has always been the most productive color for me.  YMMV!

Last year the pink Berkley maggots that most of us use for kokanee became impossible to buy and a lot of us thought it had more to do with the pandemic than any other reason. Not sure if that same issue will continue this year but taking notice of what Robert says and at least buying a few bottles, just in case it happens again this year, sure can't be a bad thing. You never know what else could happen this year, seeing how it is starting off.

I only got my boat wet 4 times last summer and went 3 other times in somebody else's boat.  But even in a busy year fishing, I have yet to need more than one bottle of each color maggots - white, green, & pink.  I wonder if maybe the shortage last year was due to the enormous increase of folks fishing and exceeding the manufacturers projected sales numbers.  I guess it wouldn't hurt to go get my 3 bottles now before the season really starts.  Big Grin

We think that was exactly why they were in such short supply, more folks fishing over the last two year. One thing I can tell you is in the last two years I have never seen so many people out fishing at Strawberry during the week. LOL, yea, it can't hurt, it isn't like they will go bad if you don't use them. Robert goes through a bunch of them in a season but few of us get out three or times a week like he does.

Scheels had four bottles of pink maggots last week. Notice I said had...I bought them.

Can’t change anything about gas prices this year but hopefully it will result in less boats on the water and less trucks in the mountains.

Very cool video. There is nothing better the catching fish on a bait you made or a fly you tied. The days of hand crafting much of anything are long gone . It's so easy to just run to your local sporting goods store and drop a few grand and your in the game. . Thanks for the advice on picking up some extra maggots I would rather be the guy with an extra bottle then the guy with none.

Ordered my maggots from Sportsman's last night, they will be here in 10 days or less. Good video Robert, are those the molds you talked about getting from your friend last year, that he hand made?
