Provo Boat Harbor

We fished the Provo Boat Harbor today from one of the docks.  The ice was 1 to 1 1/2" thick and going fast.  Catching was never fast and furious, but once we found the fish, we were getting frequent enough bites to keep it interesting.  All of the bites were right on the bottom (we were fishing in water that was ~ 8' deep).  For every white bass that we caught we would catch ~2 perch.  The largest perch were ~8 1/2 to 9" long.  

Yesterday, they diverted most of the water, in the historical Provo River, to the new riverbed that they have constructed north of the current one.

I had no idea that they created a diversion. Does it still empty into Utah lake at the same place?

No, it empties into Utah Lake north of the Provo Boat Harbor.  It is part of the restoration project.  You can read about it here:

I also fished at the state park today from 4:45pm - 6pm.  I caught a dozen WB, 3 perch and a crappie.

Fished Friday morning as well, took home 33 white bass, Took two hours to clean them up but fish Tacos are excellent.

Drove from the Tooele area to fish the docks at Provo State Park as I did yesterday. State park at its finest locked all the gates that accessed the Rental slips which is the vast majority of Dock Fishing. They explained that the public is not allowed on the rental docks. When the marina is frozen the gates are no deterrent you just walk around on the Ice and open the gate from the dock side or access the docks wherever. Now that the edges where the gates are located are open water you can no longer access the docks by walking around the gates, the docks however are still encased in an Island of Ice but rules are rules!

I was pleasantly surprised to find the gate unlocked on the rental gate, when I fished last time.  That is a first for me.  I have found the gates opened (obviously opened from the inside), but still locked.  Last year, I called the office, down there, and asked why they didn't unlock the gates and let anglers fish from the docks, during ice season.  I was told because they didn't want anglers fishing from the docks!

Just like they don't want you to access any body of water with a boat before 6AM, heaven forbid that you get on the water before all the power squadron gets there. We might be making progress with the bar code on the new parks pass, but we'll have to wait and see. The idea that people standing on the dock's are going to be a detriment is STUPID!!! Once there are boats in the slips, yes, but while they are empty, let the public in and utilize something WE HAVE PAID FOR WITH OUR TAX DOLLARS!!

The 6:00 AM rule really grinds my gears at Deer Creek. There is a sizeable portion of the summer where it is light well before 6:00 AM. That first sliver of light is often times the best fishing. Not to mention avoiding the wake surfing numb-skulls, like you said.

Don't tell the public when they can use their public resources.
